You should know that every VPN slows down your speed. Thus, when saying "the fastest VPN", I’m talking about a provider that slows down your speed the least.
Today, I will provide you with a list of the fastest VPNs that I've created by testing a VPN after VPN, it took me quite some time, but it was worth it. Hence, if you’re looking for the fastest free VPN, you won’t find it here, however, I will provide you with free alternatives.
When listing VPNs from the fastest to the less speedy ones, I was looking into download speed, upload speed, ping (the smaller the ping is the faster the webpage uploads), security measures and other important features.
Since I found many fast VPNs, which are very untrusted and unrecommended, they won’t be included in this article. You will find the fastest VPN service providers, which are worthy of consideration. Here's the top 3:
Table: ExpressVPN, CyberGhost and Private VPN features.
Before moving further there are a few things I want you to understand. Here are the reasons why a VPN slows down your Internet speed:
- Physical distance from a server you’re connecting to. When you’re connecting to a specific server, always think about the distance between you and that other location you’re connected to, your speed strongly depends on that.
- Data encryption. Every time you’re connecting to the Internet without a VPN, you go straight into your online destination, but when connecting to a VPN, your data is being encrypted first and only then travels to a specific page. So, instead of going straight to the destination goal, it has to make a quick (usually) turn. That’s the way it works.
- User overload. If a number of users connect to the same server at the same time, it gets overcrowded and slows down.
- ISP speed. The slower your Internet is before connecting to the VPN, the slower it gets after. There are no miracles. If you’re using a good provider, your speed slows down unnoticeable (just like fast VPN providers in my list).
In order to make everything clear, I want you to have my speed test results before connecting to the VPN so that it would be easier to compare:
- Download: 71.97Mbps
- Upload: 88.53Mbps
- Ping: 8ms
And here are the fastest VPNs, you will find in this article:
